Storied Details
Vanessa Hudgens got her career started at the young age of 14 when she landed her first guest role in the CBS-penned series, Still Standing, in the season one episode “Still Rocking.” while also starring in an episode of Robbery Homicide Division both in 2002. The following year in 2003, she landed her first movie role as Noel in Thirteen and stole the hearts of The Brothers Garcia as Lindsay.
Over the next couples years after starring in the 2004 movie, Thunderbirds, she would go on to make various guest stints in different series such as Keke and Jamal (unaired pilot – 2005), Quintuplets (2005), Drake & Josh (2006) and The Suite Life of Zack and Cody (2006) before landing the role that skyrocketed her career to heights one can only dream of when she landed the role of Gabriella Montez in High School Musical (2006) and it’s sequels: High School Musical 2 (2007) and High School Musical 3: Senior Year (2008).
After the third High School Musical film, Vanessa mostly starred in various independent films and blockbuster movies over the years as she didn’t necessarily follow up with anymore series besides an episode of Robot Chicken in 2009.
From 2009 until 2013, Vanessa has appeared in Bandslam (2009) as Sa5m, Beastly (2011) as Lindy Taylor, Sucker Punch (2011) as Blondie, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island (2012) as Kailani, The Frozen Ground (2013) as Cindy, Spring Breakers (2013) as Candy, Machete Kills (2013) as Cereza and Choose You (2013) as the Ex-Girlfriend, which was a short film by Avicii from the YouTube Music Awards.
As of 2014, she slowed down her roles when she starred as Apple in Gimme Shelter and the following year as Lorelei in Freaks of Nature (2015) followed by the live musical, Grease: LIVE as Rizzo in 2016. In 2017, Vanessa landed the lead role in the DC Comics, Powerless as Emily Locke which only lasted one season.
Vanessa had a busy 2018 by appearing in Drunk History as various characters, Dog Days as Tara, The Princess Switch as Stacy De Novo / Lady Margaret and Second Act as Zoe. In 2019, she appeared in RENT: LIVE as Maureen, Polar as Camille and The Knight Before Christmas as Brooke.
In 2020, she’s already appeared in Bad Boys for Life as Kelly and is set to appear in The Princess Switch: Switched Again and Tick, Tick… Boom by the end of the year and in 2021.
Other appearances by Vanessa include Punk’d, Vanessa & Ashley: Inner Circle, High School Musical: 10th Anniversary, Running Wild with Bear Grylls, Drop The Mic, The Disney Family Singalong and as one of the main judges for two seasons of So You Think You Can Dance. She’s also appeared in multiple theater stage productions.
